Description
This hearty dish combines savory ground beef gravy with creamy mashed potatoes, creating the ultimate comfort food. Perfect for family dinners or cozy nights, this recipe is quick, easy, and satisfying.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
- 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Step 1: Place peeled and quartered potatoes in a large pot. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Cook for 15-20 minutes, until potatoes are tender. Drain, then mash with milk and butter. Season with salt and pepper, and cover to keep warm.
- Step 2: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until cooked through, breaking it up with a spatula. Drain any excess fat.
- Step 3: Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until onions are soft and translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
- Step 4: Sprinkle flour over the cooked beef and onions. Stir well to incorporate and cook for about 2 minutes. Gradually add beef broth, stirring to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme, if using. Let simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened. Add frozen peas and carrots, if desired.
- Step 5: Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates and top with the ground beef gravy. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
This cozy dish pairs beautifully with a side of green beans or steamed vegetables. Feel free to substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
